QNAP TS-1270U-RP 2U Rack Mount NAS Review
Review and detailed photos of the QNAP TS-1270U-RP, a 2U 12 Disk Rack Mount NAS.
For the price, the QNAP TS-1270U-RP NAS has some impressive specs. This 2U rack mount NAS has dual redundant power supplies with hot-swap capability. The NAS supports two different dual 10GbE line cards for ultra fast transfer, can operate as an iSCSI target, and is certified for VMWare vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer virtualization platforms.
The QNAP software offers many features that you would not expect from a typical NAS appliance. The unit supports Microsoft Active Directory integration, iSCSI, FTP, NAS-to-NAS filesystem sync, and many more features.
The TS-1270U-RP features a dual core 2.4Ghz Processor, 4GB of RAM (Expandable to 32GB), 12 X 3.5″ or 2.5″ SATA 6Gb/s hard drive or SSD (hotswap) slots. There are 2 x onboard Gigabit RG-45 Ethernet ports and as mentioned a dual-port 10 Gb network card can be added.
As you can see from the photos I have populated this unit with Western Digital 4.0TB WD4000F9YZ Enterprise-class hard drives. The WD 4TB enterprise drives were chosen based on positive reviews and the drive’s 5 year warranty. The QNAP website has an easy-to-use matrix of compatible hard drives here.
